Deciding what business to start is primarily about deciding how much money you can fork out initially to fund your company. The more money you have the more sophisticated you can be from day one. You can invest in equipment, an office and marketing and advertising materials to get your products or services noticed.
However, most people have very little to invest. Most people do not have access to a huge amount of savings, they don't have the credit to go to the bank and get a startup loan and they cannot ask a family member or some kind of angel investor to put in money. And anyway why would you want to give up a share of your company before you have even started it?
So, that means asking what business to start that will cost you the least. That is where the Internet comes in because if you have an idea that you think will be a success it doesn't matter what your friends, family or the loan manager think. You don't have to succeed or fail because of other people's choices any more. You can get that idea out there to the masses for nothing.
Whatever kind of product or service you are thinking of providing there is an audience for it online. All you need to do is get as many people to see your idea as you can and offer them the chance to buy it. It has never been this easy.
Primarily this happens because you can get a website for free. When the Internet was launched a few years ago you had to be a veritable technical genius to build a website. You had to learn computer languages and you had to understand how servers worked and all that. If someone said they were a web designer it was pretty cool and people looked up to them.
Fast forward to now and anybody can build a website. If you get a free website you will get a load of tools to help you build a pretty good homepage for nothing. Then you can advertise what it is you want to sell and you can use any number of free applications to process payments for you.
Talk to people and see if they know what business to start. I am sure a lot of them would say that an online enterprise would be appealing. They would say this because they like the idea of working from home and being their own boss. They like the idea of setting their own hours and taking holidays whenever the wanted.
But they would also worry about it and think it was some deeply technical world that you have to be highly educated or skilled to get involved in.
